Eight Pieces Brocade — Ba Duan Jin

Ba Duan Jin

The Eight Pieces of Brocade health maintenance qigong

This classic qigong set is recognized worldwide for it's healthful benefits.  It's reported to have first been taught by Marshal Yeuh Fei around 1100 AD to improve the health of his soldiers. Practiced regularly, it may promote calmness, qi and blood circulation, strengthened muscles and aid in the natural processes of respiration and digestion.

Eight Pieces is an easy to learn standing set which requires no previous experience in either martial arts or the healing arts. Only a  minimum of space is needed to perform these movements, making it easy to practice just about anywhere. No special clothing is necessary either – just come as you are.

Once the movements have been learned, the entire set  can be completed in a minimum of 15 to 20 minutes and can be adjusted to fit any lifestyle. I find it's a great way to start your day.

Of all the qigong practices I know, this is an all-around favorite.

Qigong practice for me is largely an individual experience, but one that only becomes stronger when practiced in a group. I hope you'll join me in the practice of this classic health benefit qigong.

Important note

Qigong is not a replacement for licensed professional medical care. Do not stop taking any medications or alter any prescribed regimens without the advice of a medical doctor.
