Muscle Tendon Change – Yi Jin Jing Qigong

Yi Jin Jing

Yi Jin Jing (Yijin Jing, Yi Gin Ching), whose origin some believe to be nearly 3000 years old, is aimed at strengthening the muscles and tendons through progressive stretching and releasing sequences — perfect for those of us who have sedentary jobs or otherwise less active lifestyles.

Like Ba Duan Jin, this qigong requires no previous qigong or martial arts experience, is easily learned, can be practiced with a minimum of space and can be completed in 15 to 20 minutes.

•  Another health promoting set, Xianggong (Xiang Gong) which translates as “Chinese Buddhist Fragrant style of Intellectual Knowledge Qigong” is a simple sequence (practiced either standing or sitting) but most effective in cultivating healthful qi. It was “designed to improve blood circulation and gently massage specific acupuncture points and internal organs.” — Master Mr. Lam Kwan, Toronto

The complete set of only 16 movements has numerous testimonials to its health benefits. This excerpt was reported in the Journal of Chinese Medicine, 2007:

“In the observation of 140 children who exercised four times/week (average), enhancements of individual vitality and community strength were observed, and also social, psychological, and in some cases medical improvements.”

 — Dr. Claudia M. Witt, MD, MBA, DeputyAdministrative Director; Coordinator CAM Research Group Institute of Social Medicine, Epidemiology, and Health Economics, Charité — University Medical Center; D-10098 Berlin; Germany.

The interviewed teachers reported calming, energizing, reduced aggression, community experience, and improved vitality and health.

Of all the qigong practices I know, this is an all-around favorite.

Qigong practice for me is largely an individual experience, but one that only becomes stronger when practiced in a group. I hope you'll join me in the practice of this classic health benefit qigong.

Important note

Qigong is not a replacement for licensed professional medical care. Do not stop taking any medications or alter any prescribed regimens without the advice of a medical doctor.
